Ron Paul Way Behind in New York

January 22, 2008

Two polls released today show Ron Paul deep in sixth place heading into the New York Republican primary on Super Duper Tuesday. Rasmussen has Paul at 6% in New York; Marist has him at 2%. The primary is still two weeks away, and a lot can happen between now and then, but it’s time for the Ron Paul Army to kick it up a notch in the Empire State.

In the latest print edition of Serf City, I wax optimistically about how Ron Paul might win New York.

Serf City in amNew York

October 19, 2007

Matt Lysiak, a frequent contributor to Serf City, wrote an article for amNew York about some new cellphone app that sends you targeted ads based on where your phone GPS says you are. Matt plays the Big Brother card, but quotes me in the last paragraph as saying it’s no invasion of privacy, since users voluntarily install and run the application.

Finally the Weapons Inspectors Come Through…

August 30, 2007

… They’ve uncovered Weapons of Mass Destruction right inside their own offices. Seems the wacky bumblers at Turtle Bay brought “six to eight” cannisters of nerve gas home with them as souvenirs from Iraq in 1996, and then forgot where they left them. Doh! The nerve gas was rediscovered today while the kleptocrats were cleaning out their offices at UN headquarters. ABC is reporting UN headquarters was evacuated (by which I assume they mean everyone at headquarters shit their pants when they found the bombs).

We don’t have to worry about Al Qaeda smuggling Weapons of Mass Destruction into the city. Our “friends” at the UN are already doing it, and we’re picking up the tab. I’ll just add it to my long list of reasons for booting the UN out of NYC once and for all.

Serfing the Blogosphere

July 30, 2007

Sholom the anarchist rabbi, who was a guest speaker at July’s Manhattan Libertarian Party meeting, and who was kind enough to bring along several excellent co-speakers from the heroic Iraq Veterans Against the War, gives a shout-out to our Serf City print edition.

Also reading the dead-tree Serf City is one Sassafras Lowrey at Fuchsia Focus. Sassafras didn’t much care for Joseph Dobrian’s wickedly un-p.c. cover story “You’re Here, You’re Queer, Get Over It.” Personally I thought Joseph’s article was hilarious, but then Sassafras and I probably see a lot of things differently (except that we both presumably prefer female sex partners).

And if you haven’t yet read the latest print edition of Serf City, grab one today at one of our convenient curbside distribution racks before they’re all gone. If you can’t find one, you can read it online here.

Our Latest Dead-Tree Issue is Here

June 30, 2007

New York City’s long wait is over. The latest paper edition of Serf City has arrived from the printer. And if I do say so myself, it’s a great issue. Some of the highlights include Joseph Dobrian on the recent gay pride parade, Matthew Lysiak on the Atlantic Yards eminent domain scheme, Bob Armstrong on the pseudo-science behind the war on CO2, and yours truly on our municipal employees’ abuse of official parking placards. And much, much more.

You can read a pdf of the latest issue here, or you can find the paper version in our sleek black newsracks wherever finer free tabloids are given away throughout the city. We’ll also have a stack on hand at the Operation Politically Homeless booth at the Bleecker Street street fair tomorrow.

The War on Sippy Cups

June 21, 2007

The lovely and talented Becky Akers, a frequent contributor to Serf City and all-around hardcore anarchocapitalist New Yawker, discusses the TSA’s latest outrages and abuses on Antiwar Radio. Becky is a prolific chronicler of the TSA for LewRockwell.com and is writing a book on the subject. The latest outrage that has Becky’s dander up is some TSA goon harrassing a mother and her toddler because the little punk had the temerity to try to bring his sippy cup through the DMZ. Becky’s article on the subject is here. Video of the terrorist tot and his water of mass destruction is here. (Amazingly, the goons at the TSA have such a twisted perspective that they apparently think the video exonerates rather than condemns their agents, as they posted it on their own “Mythbusters” website.)

Does the Emperor have even a G-string ?

April 21, 2007

I’ve just added that subtitle to my Logic of Liberty article : The War on CO2 ; which I’m preparing for the next issue of Serf City .

And , I just posted the following comment to the Digg of a Vanity Fair article in their current “Green Issue” labeling Warming Denial a “Convenient Untruth” :

  • A smug defense by the GW alarmists, but Myron Ebell is right, “Reality will win”.

In the next issue of the Manhattan Libertarian’s www.SurfCity.US I will be seriously challenging the physics underlying the claim that any sort of filter, which is what the atmosphere is, can cause a sphere to get warmer than the space around it. I was most surprised to learn that James Hansen is a PhD in Physics. I would like to see, both in equation and experiment, a filter which will cause heat to go up hill. If he can, then surely he can calculate to the precision of the measurements of the spectra of the materials exactly what change in mean temperature is caused by a addition of one molecule of CO2 among every 10,000 molecules in the atmosphere.

Frankly, I think the science I see from the alarmists is pathetic.

Incidentally, I will be looking for an explanation for the results of an experiment measuring the temperature of white and black ping pong balls suspended in the Colorado sun which I will be posting to Google Video in conjunction with the article

Write for Serf City

April 6, 2007

We’re working on the next issue of Serf City, the tabloid newspaper that covers New York politics from a libertarian perspective. This is a great opportunity to get your name and opinions in print. You don’t have to be a libertarian to contribute, but articles should be pro-freedom in theme. We strongly prefer stories with local relevance, but we will also consider national political issues.

We also really need editorial cartoons and photography.

The deadline for the next issue is April 16. Send your stories and pictures to editor (at) serfcity (dot) com.

How does this blog thingy work anyway?

March 27, 2007

It’s long overdue, but Serf City, everyone’s favorite libertarian tabloid, finally has a blog. Since we only publish about 3-4 paper issues a year, this will give our writers a forum for communicating with our loyal readers between issues.

What can you expect here? Mostly the same stuff you’d find in Serf City the paper, only more timely and more abbreviated. New York politics from a libertarian perspective, of course. We’ll also try to keep you in the loop about freedom activities around town.

I often hear complaints about the demise of the late, great Village Choice. Think of this blog as a new and improved version of The Village Choice, but instead of appearing in your inbox just once a week, we’ll update it throughout the week with news, rants and events of interest to the freedom community. We even have one of those nifty RSS feeds so you can add our content to your news aggregator.

This blog is very much a work in progress, so we’ll probably be tinkering with the design and format over the next few days. The next order of business is to get the other Serf City contributors up and blogging here. Right now I’m the only one who can post, but that will soon change.

And of course, we more than welcome your feedback in the comments section. Let us know what you like about this blog, what you hate, and how we can make it better. We might listen, but then again we might not.

Enjoy.
